I'd never written a line of Swift before this project. Wrapped started as a way to learn a new coding language, experiment with Claude Code and build something I actually wanted to use.

Wrapped is a gift coordination app for iOS. Import your contacts, set birthday + event reminders, discover curated gift ideas, track purchases + wishlists and share contacts with family to keep everyone in sync. 20,000 lines of Swift, 108 commits and 3 months of building.

PROBLEM

Gift-giving is one of those invisible responsibilities that falls on one person in every family. They're managing dozens of recipients, remembering dates, coordinating with partners so nobody doubles up. All from scattered notes, messages and mental load. Existing tools are either too broad (calendar apps) or too narrow (wishlists with no coordination). Nothing ties it all together.

SOLUTION

Wrapped brings contact management, event tracking, gift discovery and family sharing into one app. Import contacts from your phone, configure staggered notifications so you're reminded weeks in advance (not the day before), browse curated recommendations through a Tinder-style discovery experience and share contacts with your partner to sync gifts, wishlists and events in real-time.

OUTCOME

This was never about launching a startup. It was about learning by building something real.

  1. Designers have never had more leverage than they do today. Anyone can ship code with the right tools

  2. My best results still come from solidifying design intent in Figma before prompting AI to implement it

  3. Product design as a discipline is moving fast. Personal projects are the best way to stay on top of tools and tech

  4. AI doing design and implementation creates slop. The value is in directing intent, not generating output

The app is in alpha with 12 testers, 126 contacts, 180 events and 88 wishlist items. Currently exploring agentic shopping via Universal Commerce Protocol, localised affiliate linking and wishlist price-tracking.
